Radix Notoginseng
(Tam thất- San qi)
Introduction
Radix Notoginseng known as Panax notoginseng (Burkill) F.H. Chen, belongs to the Araliaceae family. It is a perennial herbaceous plant, primarily cultivated in high mountainous regions of Vietnam (such as Lào Cai, Hà Giang, Cao Bằng) . The tuberous root of notoginseng, often called “Tam thất bắc,” is the main medicinal part, harvested from 3-7-year-old plants, then dried or processed into powder, paste, or extract. In traditional medicine, notoginseng has a sweet, slightly bitter taste, warm nature, and enters the liver and stomach meridians, with functions to tonify blood, invigorate blood, disperse stasis, and enhance overall health. Notoginseng is considered a valuable herb, commonly used to support treatment of blood-related, cardiovascular, and fatigue-related conditions.
