Rhizoma Curcuma Aromatica

Introduction

Red Turmeric Root Powder, derived from the rhizome of Curcuma longa L. with high curcumin content, belonging to the Zingiberaceae family, is a distinctive spice and medicinal product in Vietnam. Red turmeric is primarily cultivated in northern mountainous provinces such as Cao Bang, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, Bac Kan, and the Central Highlands like Dak Lak, where the tropical climate, fertile basalt or alluvial soils provide optimal growing conditions. The plant is sown in spring and harvested after 9–12 months when the rhizomes mature, then cleaned, dried, and ground into a vibrant orange-yellow powder.

Red turmeric powder contains curcumin (3–5%), higher than standard yellow turmeric, along with antioxidants and essential oils, offering a mildly spicy, earthy aroma. In traditional Vietnamese medicine, red turmeric is warm and slightly bitter, aiding in anti-inflammation, digestion, wound healing, joint pain relief, and immune support. It is used to treat stomach pain, oral ulcers, support liver health, or as a face mask to brighten skin and reduce acne scars.
