Ginger Root Powder

Introduction

Ginger Root Powder, derived from the rhizome of Zingiber officinale Roscoe (family Zingiberaceae), is a widely used spice and medicinal product in Vietnam. In Vietnam, ginger is extensively cultivated in provinces such as Nghệ An, Thanh Hóa, Hà Tĩnh, and Đắk Lắk, where the warm, humid climate and loose, well-drained soil are ideal for its growth. Ginger is typically planted in early spring and harvested after 8–10 months when the rhizomes mature, then dried and ground into a fine powder.

Ginger powder contains active compounds like gingerol, shogaol, and zingerone, which contribute to its pungent flavor and medicinal properties. In traditional Vietnamese medicine, ginger powder is considered warm and spicy, helping to warm the body, aid digestion, reduce nausea, and treat colds, coughs, and sore throats.
