Rhizoma Curcumae Longae
(Jiang Huang-Tumeric Rhizome)

Introduction

Yellow Turmeric Root Powder, made from the rhizome of Curcuma longa L. (family Zingiberaceae), is a widely used spice and medicinal product in Vietnam. In Vietnam, turmeric is extensively cultivated in provinces such as Hung Yen, Hai Duong, Nghe An, Quang Nam, and Dak Lak, where the humid tropical climate and fertile, loose alluvial or basalt soil provide ideal growing conditions. Turmeric is typically planted in spring and harvested after 9–12 months when the rhizomes mature, then cleaned, dried, and ground into a fine powder.

Yellow turmeric powder contains curcumin, the primary compound responsible for its characteristic golden color and numerous health benefits, along with antioxidants and essential oils. In traditional Vietnamese medicine, turmeric is considered bitter and warm, aiding in anti-inflammation, digestion, wound healing, joint pain relief, and immune system support. The powder is used to treat stomach pain, bloating, jaundice, or as a face mask to nourish skin, reduce acne, and fade dark spots.
