Herba Lysimachiae
(Jin Qian Cao-Lysimachia)

Introduction

Lysimachia (Lysimachia christinae Hance), a member of the Primulaceae family, is a perennial herbaceous plant characterized by its creeping stems and small, round leaves. The plant is widely distributed in Southeast Asia, particularly in northern and central Vietnam (Hà Tĩnh, Quảng Bình, and Thanh Hóa provinces). Lysimachia thrives in humid tropical climates, growing optimally at elevations of 100–1,000 m on sandy loam or moist feralitic soils with good drainage.

In traditional medicine, the entire plant, especially the leaves and stems, is utilized for its flavonoid and saponin content, which exhibits diuretic, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties. In Vietnam, Lysimachia is commonly used in folk remedies to treat kidney stones, urinary tract stones, and urinary tract infections. A decoction of Lysimachia is employed to promote stone expulsion and alleviate pain caused by inflammation.
